Out of nowhere, the following sentence threw me totally off today, yet it confirms to me that most people would not even pay the following a few seconds of attention:
“If you order a salad in McDonalds, it’s like you go to a brothel for hugs.”
They categorized it under the “humor” section. I don’t find it humorous, but very offensive. Because I know what this word, “BROTHEL” means to a lot of women and children.
It’s a place of scared and horror, a place of pain and dehumanization, a place of insult and assault, a place of fear and hopelessness, a place of filth and more filth, a place of caked old blood. It does not has any implication of simply ordering a salad from a fast food joint, but has all the implications of sinfulness to the fullest extreme form. It has all the implications of one who has all the wealth of the first world country who would not only intentionally go hunting down human beings, but the most vulnerable human beings who are malnourished and live in extreme poverty, whose bodies crave for food in the stomachs, who has to give you hugs out of fear, who has to do so much more than offering hugs but has to say yes to so many other despicable acts that are to be done onto them.
So why there are people who will still find the above status shuffle humorous? It brings disgust to my core. Yet it forces my knees to bend before my Lord Jesus tonight, “rend the heaven and come down”. It brings me back to Isaiah 59:9-11,
“So justice is far from us,
and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness;
for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
10 Like the blind we grope along the wall,
feeling our way like men without eyes.
At midday we stumble as if it were twilight;
among the strong, we are like the dead.
11 We all growl like bears;
we moan mournfully like doves.
We look for justice, but find none;
for deliverance, but it is far away.”
So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.
I pray … According to what they have done, so will he repay wrath to his enemies and retribution to his foes; he will repay the islands their due. From the west, people will fear the name of the LORD, and from the rising of the sun, they will reverse his glory. For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the LORD drives along. In Your Son’s Name, I pray.
